My Approach
People often know they're experiencing struggle but sometimes they don’t know why. As a result, the wish to find resolve and resilience clashes with the expectations of our day-to-day life. This can make it hard to find a way to start therapy but when people give themselves permission to reach out, they can often see that they are capable to do hard things. Anxiety, Trauma
& Depression
While not exhaustive in any way, these are the most common reasons people come to therapy. Anxiety can make us feel like something bad is going to happen and we have to always be prepared. Depression plagues us with feelings beyond that of sadness and worthlessness that takes us to undesirable places. Trauma is a stark reminder of unsafe experiences we've faced. In order to find effective ways of coping, it is important to understand why we're going through these degrees of distress in order to unlearn past patterns and learn new ones.
Life Transitions & Self-Exploration
Life transitions and self-exploration are a ubiquitous phenomena. Part of the human experience is that we're always living in our heads but also taking in what's happening in the outside environment. When we are faced with change, whether its willfully or unwarranted, we are forced to adapt. Sometimes the strategies used in the past don't work with new changes. As a result, we can feel overwhelmed and left in limbo. We can work towards a meaningful experience when change happens and I will guide you to build the necessary skills that help you move forward.
Relationships & Family Dynamics
Human beings are designed to be social creatures. We rely on relationships to create meaning of not only how we relate to others but how others relate to us. While I'm well-versed in therapeutic orientations such as CBT, Family Systems and Psychodynamic approaches, I find that the relationship I develop with my clients allows them to experience being with someone in a unique way. Although intentionally controlled, this can translate to relationships that are most important to you, those outside of therapy.
Parenting Support
Parenting can be one of the most rewarding yet challenging experiences in life, and it's normal for couples to encounter difficulties along the way. My approach blends empathy and evidence-based techniques to provide effective solutions. Through collaborative sessions, we explore parenting values, patterns of communication, and individual strengths, aiming to enhance parent-child relationships and strengthen the adult partnership. Whether you're experiencing transitions into parenthood or seeking specific guidance, I offer a supportive and nonjudgemental space for couples to find clarity and confidence in their roles as parents.
Child-Centered Play Therapy
Child-centered play therapy is an evidence based approach that fosters emotional growth and healing in children. Through a combination of empathetic listening and purposeful play, children are encouraged to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment. My approach focuses on each child's unique needs, allowing them to explore and process their feelings at their own pace. Whether your child is struggling with behavioral issues, anxiety, trauma, or other challenges, child-centered play therapy offers a holistic and effective approach to promote emotional well-being and resilience.
Latinx Experience
My personal identity and professional expertise merge to provide a unique understanding of the challenges and strengths present in Latinx cultures. I integrate culturally sensitive techniques and therapies to create a safe space for exploration and healing. Whether your grappling with acculturation stress, intergenerational conflicts, or other mental health issues, I provide a supportive environment where you can explore your identity, values, and concerns. If you're searching for therapy that respects and celebrates your Latinx heritage while addressing your mental health needs, I'm here to support you.
